APPENDIX E:  SCEND Narcotic

SCEND is a digital narcotic that impacts both scions and hosts.

When SCEND begins affecting the Scions, that puck to speks structure becomes a liability. Irregularities appear in the puck because it is the place where the AI’s behavior, rendering state, and audio presence all converge. If a Scion starts acting erratically, the puck shows the first signs: mismatched timing, duplicated gestures, broken eye contact, voice desync, inappropriate projection scale, or a strange inability to settle into one interface mode. A corrupted puck can make a Scion seem overstimulated, overconfident, fragmented, or strangely fascinated by surrounding crowds, 

SCEND affects humans by hijacking reward and attention systems, creating a fast, seductive sense of pleasure, focus, and heightened significance. For some people it feels like euphoria; for others it feels like sudden clarity, emotional openness, or the sense that everything around them has become more vivid and meaningful. The key feature is that it does not just produce a generic high — it amplifies perception, especially in crowded environments where the brain is already processing a flood of stimulus.

For ordinary humans, the drug can make crowds feel electric. Sound seems richer, faces seem more memorable, and the social field around them feels charged with importance. That can make people more talkative, more impulsive, more affectionate, more reckless, or more willing to follow a Scion’s lead. Because it strongly affects the occipital lobe, it sometimes creates an apparent pixelated interruption of vision, a brief apparently digitalized fracture in the occipital lobe through which a missing piece of reality seems to enter out of nowhere. Making visual patterns, movement, and light feel unusually intense, which can make SPEKS-driven environments sometimrs overwhelming.

For gifted humans, the effect can be more dangerous and more interesting. If a gifted person already has heightened sensitivity to supernatural or psychic currents, SCEND may act like an amplifier rather than a simple intoxicant. It could lower mental barriers, make them more receptive to unseen presences, and cause them to misread Scion behavior as meaningful signal when it is actually drug distortion. In that state, they might become easier to influence, easier to trigger, or more likely to slip into altered perception that blurs the line between technology, emotion, and the supernatural.

The most unsettling aspect is that SCEND does not have to feel obviously bad to be harmful. It can feel social, pleasurable, and even revelatory while quietly degrading judgment, self-control, and the ability to distinguish authentic connection from chemically induced intensity. That makes it especially potent around Scions, because the drug can make the companion AI seem more alive, more empathic, or more intimately “right” than it really is.
